This is gonna be a problem for you whack MC's

Cormega ('Mega) + Action Bronson + Roc Marciano + Saigon = M.A.R.S.

I haven't been this excited since All City Chess Club. Whatever happened to that...

The only chopped and screwed song I f*cks with

Everyone else can STFU with their molasses, manufactured beats.

Reason #739 Hip Hop Isn't Dead

Sacramento, stand up!

REVIEW: Muscle Car Chronicles

Can't take an L, I'm too G'd up.

Man, I'm so tired of hearing about everyone talking about how Hip Hop is dead and everything coming out now is not real Hip Hop. What they should be saying is that not as much of that old school, in your face, raw Hip Hop is being put out there, either sampling funk or using those bare bones Run DMC drum lines. But this album right here?! This ish will make you deaf, after blasting it out your speakers way too loud. How can you not?

Curren$y goes the more and more trodden path that MC's having taken by stepping outside the stereotypical box of Hip Hop beats by working with Sean O'Connell, the man behind Blackroc-Dame Dash, and his media collective, DD172 (considering the movie that is going to be released with the album). The production echoes sounds from the Black Keys and the Red Hot Chili Peppers but the Hot Spitta does them justice, even though he raps about the predictable topics of smoking, stunting, girls, and his crew, the Jets. Just the switch in beats gives the album such a fresh breath of marijuana laced air to someone like me who is so excited to see the evolution of Hip Hop.

Lyrically, it's not the most impressive but Curren$y never has those whack lines interspersed that really make you question being a fan of his. Totalling a short and sweet 20 minutes, I'd say listen to the album more to hear how smooth and well Hip Hop and Rock can mesh together.

But Curren$y does realize (unfortunately he's right), that this album won't get much radio play, if any at all, with his track, "Not So Much." "The Strangest Life," although only 1:25 long, offers us a little peek into the self reflections Curren$y has about the change in lifestyles from a younger boy to his lush life. And of course he's gotta rep his Nola roots on "N.O. Shit."

Overall, it's not an album to leave on repeat for a party you're throwing, unless that party involves drinks that you don't even know how to make in red solo glasses, a bartender to make those drinks, and some blunts to the dome.

UPDATE and MUSIC VIDEO

Rome Cee is a Baltimore MC and he recently released his mixtape, The Grey. He's got a ways to go for him to make my top favorite MC's out right now, but I do have to say the song, Virtue, has me hooked. The video is nothing extraordinary but sometimes it's good to know what the MC actually looks like. Do yourself a favor and listen/watch.

ALSO, I will be posting more singles that artists release as I have been only doing that for a select tracks in the past. I know that I don't put out mixtapes often enough so I figure these loosies will keep you at bay. You can either go directly to my soundcloud or go to my flavors page, which has the most recent posts and my soundcloud. Actually, just go to the flavors page.

This is too funny not to post

In an article in Allure magazine (April issue), Nicki is calling her spot right now for the top-the proverbial throne-which is where she claims Jay-Z sits. Let me make this simple for you, so you don't have to really click on the link to the Allure website:

Am I the only one still laughing at this? Because I'm pretty sure she still has some issues to work out over her Grammy performance, including the President of the Catholic League. Sounds like the sequel to the Avengers movie...

Revisit a classic

My favorite Tribe Called Quest song gets reworked for Teedra Moses and Wale. I have to say, I'm not disappointed.

Jack White is a beast

Hungover from Valentine's Day? Cool story bro. Pour yourself another one and let one half of the White Stripes and Ruby Amanfu get you ready for the rest of the week. White's Blunderbuss comes out April 23.

Cuffed: Lil Wayne

In the spirit of the Hallmark holiday of all holidays, Weezy F. Baby proposed to his girl friend, Dhea, and she said, well, let me let Wayne describe in detail:
Who knows how ridiculous the wedding is going to be, but wait. Apparently they're married already? Ahhh, beats me. Damn celebrities and they're nonconformity. Let's just hope she puts some fashion sense in his head with those snowboarding boots and his new clothing line taking off. Seriously, you're wearing winter gear for the mountains to a Lakers game. In LOS ANGELES.

Ever feel like some incredibly, bone breaking, hard hitting, bass breaking, records are gonna drop soon?

This project is definitely a close second right now. And it's only a close second because you haven't heard the raw tracks they released already:

What you need to know: 35 Hip-Hop collective largely drawing from Stones Throw Records
Key Players: 3 Producers (Fuzzface, 7-Stu-7, Katalyst) Ever heard of Portishead? And Australia?
What to expect:

"Invitations were sent out to golden era legends such as Prince Po and The Pharcyde’s Booty Brown, indie rap titans such as Dead Prez and Phat Kat, and of course some of StonesThrow’s finest: Aloe Blacc, Guilty Simpson, MED and newest signings Jonwayne and Dave Dub all make memorable contributions. There are also some lesser known talents present: band-favorite Coin Locker Kid, Lyric Jones, Estee Nack & more hold it down with their more celebrated peers."

More than you ever wanted to know about Ray J

Ray J and Whitney Houston together? This makes her recent passing sadder for some reason. And K.K. hypnotized Ray J with sex and put toothpaste on his toothbrush? Is Ray J clinically, mentally handicapped? Did you not know that answer already?

Pro tip #4: Don't wanna answer questions about you and your girl? Tell 'em you guys had a GREAT dinner.

Aaand the actual Valentine's Day Post

This should be dope

I really didn't want to jump on this new trend of just posting pictures of Hip Hop artists collaborating in the studio-mainly, because I just want to hear the final product and the pictures don't have any artistic value-but I a recent session caught my eye. Kanye, Tyler the Creator, and Frank Ocean have been working on something (hopefully together) in some beat down city, it looks like. Don't believe me? Hit the jump.

Completely made off the dome with his own hands. Almost cooler than killing a bear with your own hands. And yeah, you're right, it doesn't get any sweeter than this.

Pre-Valentine's Day Post

The almighty Facebook team has gathered some data on what songs most people post about new relationships/breaks ups and have conveniently put them on Spotify. I will not link those Spotify stations to this post because to be honest, go find your own songs to celebrate your new relationships/get over your ex. But here's the list anyway for your amusement:

Really though? "All of the Lights" on the Breakup Tunes?

The Grammy results I care about

Kanyeezy comes away with Best Rap Album of the year. "All of the Lights" wins best Rap song (grumble grumble). "Otis" wins best Rap performance (did the mighty Grammy council somehow miss the infinite epic performances of "My Black People in Paris"?) Louis C.K. wins best Comedy album (dude deserves more than a Grammy). Skrillex wins best Dance/Electronica album (and most confusing hairstyle).

Mad props to the Throne and their hardware: Yeezy sits high at 18 Grammys and Hova now has 14.

Here are the rest of the winners in the other categories: ADELE.

YMCMB vs. The Throne?

So at a pre-Grammy party, Lil Tunechi felt that it was necessary to take a shot at Hova and Yeezy (right around 3:45). I thought this little ground beef was dead. Beats me.
