Hustlin

OFWGKTA couldn't perform at Big Day Out because some ears in New Zealand are too pure for their music. So what did they do? Have their own show. And embarrass Big Day Out.

Also for all the haters, I hold that they produce some of the sickest beats. Of course their lyrics are as raw as a diseased cow carcass but they're definitely on track to mature into one of my favorite groups. Besides, it's tough not to be a fan of a group that's so batshit crazy, loves it, and doesn't care about anything else.

CORRECTION

...or rather, more confusion. According to the Fader, Swizz Beatz is NOT the CEO of Megaupload. He was getting close to the position but never officially given the title.

Honestly, I don't care anymore who the CEO is or Megaupload, at all. There are too many other sites to get your fix for whatever your heart desires. Also, in other news, Blue Ivy Carter is named CEO of Megaupload.

More Justice!

Justice - ON'N'ON by edbangerrecords Seven Nation Army-esque visuals for Justice's On 'N' On from Audio, Video, Disco. Trippy yet hard as nails. What else would you expect?

My president will beat the bejesus out of your president

I mean, he probably could.

Who: US citizen AND President Barack Obama aka Al Green
What: Obama's reelection fundraiser
Where: Apollo Theater in Harlem
When: Yesterday.
Why: See "What" above.
What really went down: Public display of suave and fawning women.

Rest In Power Etta James

After battling leukemia for too long, Ms. Jamesetta Hawkins passed away today at the age of 73. Yes, people come and go in this world but it always hurts, especially with such great people with amazing talent.

"Beef" between Common and Drake

A battle between YMCMB and G.O.O.D. music? Meh. I'd rather see Shady 2.0 vs. Stones Throw or the Great Outdoors crew. Obviously there is no reason right now for them to settle it on record, but just saying. I'm just sad that I think this "beef" is going to end with both rappers cooling off and doing a consolation track together or something weak like that. Of course no actual shots need to be fired but why not hash this into an actual lyrical contest? What happened to that part of Hip-Hop?

Timeless Music

Things you need to know: Detroit. Re-interpretations of Herbie Hancock, J Dilla, Madlib, and Black Milk. Pure music. Support good music.

Flashback

First of all, I grew up on TMNT. I had a full on yellow sweats outfit with the whole crew on it. So call me biased, but this video is too funny to me solely based on these fools with a black belt in CUHRAZY.

After thoughts: Keep MJ's name out yo scared, crazy Christian mouth. Damn that one dude rips on Vanilla Ice. #JUSTICE. What's wilder, these evangelists trying to save the younger generation of their days or the internet losing its power to promote creative expression? That second thing would never happen, right? nahhh...

Things you may have missed

...because SOME people think that the internet has become enough of a threat to the fat pockets of corporations that any and all expressions of creativity that is broadcasted for whatever non-monetary reasons must be checked:

1.

Why yes, that is Kendrick Lamar and Pharrell (I refuse you call him the Imperial Sk8brd P or anything of the like) in the studio together. But of course the music will be cracksauce.

2. Swizz Beatz is the daddy! Remember that site, Megaupload? Yeah, the one with the half naked chicks reminding you how much time there is before you can actually download some porn music from a blog. Turns out that Swizz Beatz is actually the CEO of the company and may owe some favors after having Kanyeezy, Will.i.am, and Diddy, catching flak from Universal Music Group about this. Those three artists' label is more upset than Ray J in Vegas (lest we forget) because of the implied "piracy" sites like Megaupload promote. Piracy in this case includes albums you can buy online, i.e.: iTunes and Amazon (because those sites are struggling so much these days) and those of local, aspiring artists across the world that fight everyday to be heard. Funny how maturing artists are hustling for a contract when the established ones are fighting against their contracts.

3. Blue Ivy Carter continues to be more interesting than anything else in the world.

The quickness

Workout for your auditory senses.

Please Read This

You may not be aware but the government is continuing to try to screw us. There are bills right now (PIPA in the Senate and SOPA in the House) that threaten the existence of youtube, wikipedia, reddit, all sorts of blogs (like this work of art you're reading right now), soundcloud, and almost any other creative website that promotes Time's former person of the year, YOU. Educate yourself with this video and see what you can do: http://fightforthefuture.org/pipa/. Hopefully this is just a scare and the government is just pulling our leg. Hopefully.

A more direct message for today

Chill Moody - White POWER (prod Wes Manchild) by ChillMoody Get familiar with Skyzoo with his cut about how society "helps" us. Here are a couple other tracks I'm a fan of:
AND this one.

Later Timmy

Oh my Tebow, this piece by Jimmy Fallon makes me happy. I think you know why.

MLK Day

Whether you spend today thinking about all the shit that's been going down this past year regarding inequality and protests, worldwide, or not, spend it doing some kind of evaluation-not just evaluating everything around us but everything inside of us too. I doubt Slug wrote this song in regards to MLK Day, but I'm pretty sure Dr. King would jam out to it if he were still alive. It's all about the message.
