Snoop Scorsese back at it

After his wildly successful adult film/music video, Snoop Dogg's Hustlaz: Diary of a Pimp, Calvin returns to the booth for his next album and the director's chair for his documentary he plans to release together. I wonder if Hustler will produce the documentary this time...

STFU and listen to this

This is some classic J Dilla. The good folks at Bling47 released this video and have this to say about the track:

I got this one on a cassette from T3 circa 1997.  I’m not sure what it was for, or why Dilla had this on tape, but I thought it was hilarious.  “Shut the Fuck Up and listen to this… this.”   This kind of style was typical for our crew at this time – we were just finishing up the Fantastic Vol 1 album.  It was never about what they said – but instead how they said it.  We called it “R.A.W.” –  Rugged And wild.  And that is exactly what this one is – tape hiss and all.
Enjoy

Sh*t gangsters should not do

This is confusing in general. Is he trying to be sensitive, yet remain hard as the streets he lives on? Is this a video he's going to post on his eHarmony profile? Can you even do that? Is the gun even loaded? Where does a gangster even obtain a copy, bootlegged or not, of Adele in the streets? Maybe he's sad over Demi Moore's hospitalization. Nahhh.

Director Yeezy World Peace

This must be how he directs. So nonchalant.
Mr. West, Mr. West! ...never sits down. I swear, he probably has more thoughts that circulate through his crazy mind than I do on a really good day. What's he doing now? Directing, of course. Following his debut with his Runaway short, Kanye is planning on shooting a similar short film/music video in the middle east. Can't wait to hear the update that it'll be shown only in IMAX 3D with these glasses:

It's a "level of quality"

Get More: Music News

Here Rozay's thoughts (never thought I'd ever say that) on the end of Mercedes' Maybach line. And I just saved up enough cash to buy my 13th one...

Rest in Power Don Cornelius

The creator of Soul Train seems to have taken his own life in his home in California. And while most of us may not have been raised on this iconic show, it most definitely helped secure a spot for Soul, Funk, and arguably Hip Hop in mainstream music. Mr. Cornelius was 75.

What if Wu-Tang Clan stayed a clan?

The Chef gives his honest opinion on why the Wu-Tang diminished in strength over time: solo careers. While I wasn't there with the clan everyday of their early start, I do have to agree that there is some truth to starting solo careers early in the game. Man, to think if Wu-Tang was still kicking out albums every now and then with the golden touch of their early albums, if not better...

R. Kelly's comeback

Some people will forever be interesting to me. Robert Sylvester Kelly is one of those people. Here's some new old school soul for your souls. It's his first single off his upcoming album, Write Me Back (March release). I'll probably have some form of it. How could I not? How could YOU not?

But honestly, I'm more interested in his supposed other next album, Black Panties. Totally serious.

Get familiar: Rappity Rap Rap

Don't know what Hip Hop is? And don't say it's just Rap. Let these cheerleaders in disguise give you a lesson on how not to explain 1/3 of Hip Hop. And people wonder why Hip Hop caught on so slowly over mainstream radio waves...

Signed!

Ya favorite Tity Boi just inked the deal with Def Jam. Good way to continue the week after a sold out performance at SOB last night. Still waiting for that one track that's  going to totally win me over. I know it's out there somewhere...

Mostly NSFW

Waka Flocka “Round Of Applause” Atlanta Video Shoot at Diamonds of Atl from Atl Night Spots on Vimeo.

Guess what music video is almost done? Yeah. Yeah... I wonder if the King of Diamonds has ever turned down an artist for a music video filming in their extravagant gentlemen's club. One would assume Chief Keef would be one of those artists but these days, I'm lost on that topic. And for all the chicks keeping up with this blog, don't worry, no men were harmed in the making of this video.

Beef: Resolved?

So Aubrey is putting this "beef" to rest. In an interview with Nahright, he had this to say:

Really Aubrey? You really think Common is losing that much traction with the Hip Hop fan base that he needs to target you? Don't flatter yourself. So maybe Aubrey sold more units his first week (who knows how many of those went to the vaults of YMCMB), but does that imply that Common needs to go after him? After all this, I just have this to say:

Get Familiar: A$AP Mob

If you haven't gotten used to the A$AP sound/fashion/culture, do it here with Complex. It's more of a collective than anything, drawing on each of its members to create this self-sufficient think tank for that pretty ish. Plus they're really cool guys who aren't afraid to roll through a venue, literally rolling blunts.

I met A$AP Rocky at a concert backstage and he was overjoyed to sign my Knicks snapback. Their music might not be for everyone but it sure as hell has me hooked. It's a more mature, east coast OFWGKTA. And by east coast, I mean real recognize real substance in their lyrics.

What is going on? Really.

Remember this guy? Chief Keef. Yeah, the rapper I immediately wrote off as something not worth your time. But wait. Lil B, Soulja Boy, MTV2, and a few labels (Bad Boy-I know right?), are giving this guy a few more glances than I would passing at the mall, even especially with a mixtape cover like that. I gave his latest track another listen (3Hunna remix with Soulja Boiiiii), which I won't post (you're welcome), and it's still disappointing with it's auto-tune atrociousness and all. And I listened to Wrestlemania with King Louie, solely based on the track name (I'm a sucker for catchy names that break from the rest), and it still sucked.

Will somebody please explain this phenomenon that is Chief Keef to me? But in hoodrat street talk because how else would you do it? BANG BANG.

You read it right. MTV2 has officially lost it.

Cory Gunz arrested

Yup. One of my favorite YMCMB artists is going to have to serve some time after being busted with a loaded firearm in his backpack in the Bronx. Of course the law will be making an example out of this and not enough people will be trending #freegunz (which is kind of ironic in itself). His father gave a pretty good summary of the whole ordeal with MTV.

Just as long as he doesn't come out with an album of him singing after he's done with his time...

UPDATE: According to the Daily News and an interview they did with Gunz, he could at least 3.5 years in prison. Cotdamn that would be a long time without music from this guy. YMCMB better have some "affiliates" on the inside of whatever prison he gets sent to.

Also, not that anyone really/should care, Machine Gun Kelly was arrested on disorderly conduct and released on bond in Florida. More updates on this to come. Not.
