Platitude CONFIRMED: Violence begets violence

SMH Colorado
It hasn't even been a week since the tragedy in Aurora, CO, and the locals have taken to arms. The number of people in Colorado who have applied for a background check to purchase a firearm has increased by 43%. Let's go over the numbers.

880 people applied on July 13
(July 19-James Holmes, in a calculating and merciless manner, kills 12 people and injures 58 others)
1,216 people applied on July 20
1,243 people applied on July 21

2,887 people applied over the weekend after the shooting

I understand the fear and anger some families have over this ordeal, but for some reason this public response doesn't feel right. Shouldn't we work on making it harder to get guns on the streets and regulate the use of the ones already out there? I'm probably really naive and optimistic to hope for a world where people don't need guns for protection. At least Batman shows he has a heart.
